Cecile Kirk
Cecile Kirk was the founder member and now shareholder and Executive Chairman, in
the Umshini Consultancy Services (Pty) Ltd of training providers, respectively.
Cecile has been involved with KZN Department of Transport Vukuzache Renascence
Project, appointed as a service provider supplying plant and equipment and provide
operator training as well.
Cecile has work with various manufacturers of plant and equipment; she was JCB’s top
sales person for 2004 and 2005. She brought in the first JCB ADT’s into South
Africa. In 2009 she was appointed as the project manager for a company called Copper
Sunset Trading 226 (Pty) Ltd, for a LED community beneficiation project in
Kadikswene in the Makopane District Municipality in the Limpopo Province. She is
still very active with this project. She must provide all the plant & equipment,
crushers and screens, and also do all skills training and operator training for the
project.
Cecile is a member of NAFCOC (National Federation Commerce & Industry). She was
appointed in 2011-2013 as their representative President in the West Rand District
of Gauteng. Cecile is also a member of the Sasolburg Chamber, Randfontein Chamber.
Thomas M. Phiri
Thomas M. Phiri has a diploma in Personnel & Training Management, and Human
Resources Management. Tommy is an accredited training provider with Agri-SETA. Tommy
was also involved in writing unit standard for Agri-SETA and involved in writing
unit standards for extension officers – Dept. of Agriculture. Tommy did various
Labour Relations, Labour Law, SABS Implementation and Evaluation of Quality
Management Systems, Registered Assessor and Moderator with Agri-Seta. IR Training
and development of staff.
Freddy Scheepers
With 4 years’ experience in Banking and 14 years’ experience in Mining; he started in
1992 at First National Bank and left in 1995 to work at Solmin Mining, Shaft Sinkers
on various Hard Rock and Coal Mines he also worked at Welco Mining Consultants as a
HR Manager after acquiring his HR Diploma in 2001.
Steve Theron
Steve has 40 years’ experience in Mining; he started in 1970 at Blyfooruitzicht Gold Mine
as a Learner Miner, Miner and Shift Boss he went to Anglo’s Western Deep Levels Mine
in 1977 as a Shift Boss, Mine Overseer and Projects Manager He obtained his National
Diploma in Metalliferous Mining in 1984, Steve was also principal at Anglo Gold
Ashanti’s training centre in the 80’s.
Ronnie Miles
Ronnie started working at AMCOAL SA Coal Estates as a miner in February 1980 and became a
Dragline operator in August 1980. After four years as a Dragline operator, he was
promoted to Dragline foreman. During 1988 he took over the responsibility of
blasting foreman in the opencast section. As part of his development program, he
moved to Landau South shaft in 1989 to obtain his underground blasting ticket as
well as the required shifts to qualify for M.O. certificate.
In November 2001 he worked at Anglo Base Metals Skorpionzinc Mine as Production Manager mining assuming
responsibility for all blasting and mining activities.
In July 2005 he was appointed as Production Manager/training at Anglo Gold Ashanti
and seconded to Gata Gold Mine in Tanzania as Technical Training superintendent
responsible to train and develop people in all mining related fields. HME, Geology,

Jaco Coetzer
Jaco has 2 years’ experience in Engineering Workshops and 14 years in Mining and he
started in 1992 at Bond Industries and worked in the workshops he left in 1994.He
then worked at Hartebeesfontein Gold Mine at the Gold, Uranium and Washing Plants he
left in 2002 to start his own consulting business doing Feasibility Studies, Diamond
Training, Diamond Evaluation and Commodity Trading.
Frances Mafete
Frances has 29 Years Water and Environmental Experience with a (MBA) Masters in
Business Administration, BSc (Hons) Applied Chemistry Water Utilization, B-Tech
Degree Water Care, National Diploma Water Care, and NTC 111 Certificate Water
Purification. He is currently also contracted as a consultant to the department of
Water and Forestry Nationally.
Eddie Kloppers
Eddie obtained a degree in social studies in 2002 and started working in the Insurance
sector as a Development Consultant. In 2007 he was appointed as the General Manager
for SMH Mines which had Alluvial Gold operations in Zambia and Diamond and Manganese
operations in Lichtenburg. He left SMH Mines in 2009 and joined Umjindi Mining and
Engineering services where he gained experience in coal beneficiation and
specifically in beneficiation of fine minerals and particle upsizing. In 2012 he
joined Kalpagen Holdings where he is currently serving as a Business Unit Manager as
well as a consultant for Umshini CS.
